What is a Slot?

A slot is a narrow opening in something, especially one for receiving or holding a coin. It may also refer to:

A job or position: “I have the slot as chief copy editor.”

A notch in a plane’s wing: “The airplane’s wing has several slots for the airflow.”
A slot is an allocated, scheduled time and place for an aircraft to take off or land, as authorized by an airport or air-traffic authority: “Airports are very busy and the use of slots helps reduce congestion and prevent repeated delays.”
